Turn Off the Power

This is the most important step. Before you do anything else, turn off power to the circuit at the breaker box.

How to confirm: Use a non-contact voltage tester to ensure the power is truly off. Never assume — always test.

Remove the Old Fixture

Carefully detach the existing wall light from the electrical box.

• What to do: Unscrew the mounting screws and gently pull the fixture away from the wall. Disconnect the wires by loosening the wire nuts — take note of which wire is connected to which.

Tip: Take a photo before disconnecting — it helps when you're reconnecting the new fixture.

Connect the New Fixture

Most fixtures follow the same wiring standard: black to black (hot), white to white (neutral), and green or bare copper to ground.

• What to do: Connect the matching wires using wire nuts. Twist securely and tug gently to confirm they're tight. If your fixture has a ground wire, attach it to the ground screw.

Tip: If your wiring colors don't match, stop and consult a licensed electrician.

Step 4

Secure and Test

Once the wiring is connected, gently tuck the wires into the electrical box. Attach the fixture to the wall using the provided mounting screws.

• What to do: Turn the power back on at the breaker. Test the light. If it works, carefully align and secure the fixture — make sure it's level and flush against the wall.
